Every woman can pull off wearing pearls no matter what they’re wearing – from that well-known black dress to that spectacular wedding gown. Taking good care of them will make them last for many generations to come. So if what you have are natural or cultured pieces, read on. The following are some simple tips on keeping the beauty of pearl jewelry long lasting.
From earrings, necklaces, bracelets to rings, they’re best stored inside individual soft pouches. Ideally, these should be made out of cotton, linen or silk. You may also store them in a lined jewelry box, inside their own compartments. Placing them together with other pieces out of metals or containing gemstones can scratch their delicate surface.
Keep them from getting in contact with harsh chemicals. Your perfumes, hair styling products, make up and other cosmetics may contain such chemicals. That’s why you should apply them all first before putting on your jewelry. Before storing them at the end of the day, make it a habit to wipe them off with a cloth that’s dry and soft. This will deal with chemical residues on their surface.
There are hard or rough fabric types that can also scratch your pearls. If you’re wearing garbs out of these fabrics, it’s best to skip wearing your precious pearls. Additionally, you should keep them from rubbing against metal zippers, hooks, buttons and the likes. Your jewelry must be the last thing you put on when dressing. When undressing, do the reverse: they should be the very first thing you remove.
While the natural oils on your skin can enhance the luster of your jewelry, the acids on your skin can damage it. That’s why you should remember to wipe them clean each time before storing them. Occasionally, you may use a damp cloth for a thorough cleaning. But make sure you let them completely dry naturally before storage. Do not use any cleaning solution except something that’s formulated for pearls.
Remove your jewelry prior to doing activities which will cause you to perspire – house cleaning, working out, going to hot and humid areas, etc. Doing so will save them from getting in contact with your sweat unnecessarily, as well as dirt or chemicals. Remove pearl necklaces before swimming as prolonged exposure to water can weaken the silk string.
Speaking of necklaces, it’s best to have them restrung every 1 to 2 years by an experienced jeweler. Usually, silk thread is used, although nylon has become an acceptable alternative these days. See to it that knots are made between pearls to spare them from rubbing against each other. And as added precaution, these knots will also keep the pieces from falling all together should the string break.
The beauty of pearl jewelry never goes out of fashion. They may not be as expensive as diamonds, but they don’t carry cheap price tags either. By properly taking care of these fine pieces, you can enjoy them or even future generations for many years to come.
Pearls are a wonderful gift straight from from nature. All women want to care for your pearl bracelet or necklace to maintain the magnificent luster of your investment and be able to use your beautiful jewelry for as long as possible.

The Wilson Phillips star filed legal papers against Baldwin in February (10) after undergoing treatment in rehab for anxiety.

She says, “(The divorce was) an impulsive decision I regret.”
Phillips and Baldwin sealed their reunion on 12 September (10) by renewing their vows in front of friends and family just three days after celebrating their 15thwedding anniversary.
The singer tells People magazine, “It was the most romantic, rewarding anniversary we’ve ever had.”
Baldwin says, “Grown men had tears coming down their cheeks!”
And Phillips insists she’s managed to control her anxiety issues to enjoy her second chance at love.
She adds, “All we’ve gone through this year was worth it. Billy loves me no matter how angry, impatient or frustrated I get. You can’t put a price tag on that.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly planning a wedding in April.
The pair recently announced their engagement and a date in April is said to be at the top of their list.
A spokesperson said to PEOPLE: ‘There is a date they have in mind, and it’s a case of working it out with the relevant parties.’
The US website claims a palace source believes the wedding will be on April 28 but they are still talking to all the ‘relevant parties’, including the government and the police.
It is also claimed a second date has been lined up if the first doesn’t work out.
Wedding bells are ringing across Lincolnshire, with more and more couples choosing to renew their marriage vows.
The Echo can reveal, following a Freedom of Information request to Lincolnshire County Council, that the number of requests to renew marriage vows has gone from six in 2001, to 48 in 2009.
The number of actual ceremonies taking place has risen to 21 in 2009, the highest number of ceremonies in the last ten years, compared to a single ceremony in 2001.
The highest number of marriage vow renewal requests in the past decade occurred in 2007, with 50 requests put to the county council’s registration services.
However, only 20 of those requests resulted in actual ceremonies.
In February this year, the Echo reported how Pauline and Ted Sidebottom, from Welton, renewed their wedding vows, after Mrs Sidebottom battled health problems for seven years.
The couple wanted to celebrate the end of the adversity they had faced throughout their marriage.
Six years ago, the 49-year-old Mrs Sidebottom had two spinal operations close together – the second of which damaged her spinal column and caused her to lose feeling in one of her legs.
“It was nice to renew our vows,” explained Mrs Sidebottom.
“Ted and I have been through a lot over the last few years, with all the medical problems and operations.
“Obviously, over time, the dynamics between you and your husband change. Ted became not only my husband, but my carer, which is not how I wanted it to be.
“Renewing our vows was special, and I would recommend it to any married couple. It makes you think about why you’re together again.”
